The Kalkbult Project Company was awarded a contract to build, own and operate a solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in the Kalkbult area near Petrusville in the Northern Cape. The solar farm has an installed capacity of 73MW and covers 105 hectares of a working sheep farm. It comprises 312,000 solar panels mounted on 156km of substructure linked to inverters, transformers and a high voltage sub-station. Construction commenced in late 2012 and commercial operations date was achieved in the first quarter of 2014, under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
