AIIM’s co-MD, Vuyo Ntoi, sat down with African Business, for an extensive interview on African infrastructure investment, providing an overview on the current investing landscape. While meandering through project risk mitigation strategies, the importance of DFIs and AIIM’s own investment approach, much of the discussion was centred on South Africa’s energy transition.
While addressing key issues posed by increased urbanisation, like improved connectivity and transport – access to energy remains a priority for South Africa’s largest investor in the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) programme. As clean energy development grows in South Africa, Vuyo has urged stakeholders to come together and ramp up efforts to address the country’s climate goals.
Vuyo noted, “We support reducing the impact of climate change. We don’t invest in coal or the coal value chain. We have developed a framework to ensure that whatever investments we might make into the gas sector for instance are supportive of meeting the Paris goals.”
