MetroFibre is a South African open access fibre operator focused on multi-user dwellings in Gauteng and has grown to be the fourth largest Fibre To The Home ("FTTH") player, and one of the largest Fibre To The Business ("FTTB") providers in Gauteng.
MetroFibre owns and operates a globally compliant Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) open-access fibre network with ~144,000 homes passed and ~50,500 active connections (November 2020) and has established a first-mover advantage in a number of metropolitan suburbs.
MetroFibre is a vertically integrated operator across Layer 1 (the physical infrastructure which is 95% owned), Layer 2 (the managed network on the physical infrastructure) and Layer 3 (services sold through in-house or third party ISPs).
AIIM was awarded ‘African Digital Infrastructure Deal of the Year’ for their investment in MetroFibre Networx, at the IJGlobal Awards 2020 as well as the ‘Infrastructure Deal of the Year’ at the PEA Awards 2021. MetroFibre Networx also won the 'Large Category" prize at the 2022 SAVCA Awards.
