Construction on Metrowind Van Stadens Wind Farm began in September 2012 and was completed in early 2014. Situated in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality near Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, the project consists of nine 3MW wind turbines and provide electricity directly to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. This 27MW boost to the local grid accounts for nearly half of the 10% renewable energy target for the area. Situated in one of the most optimal wind energy locations in the country, Van Stadens Wind Farm is using state-of-the-art technology that has been designed to minimise any negative impacts on the surrounding environment.
