The Herbert Project Company was awarded the contract to build, own and operate a solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in the Herbert area, north of Douglas in the Northern Cape. The developer is AE-AMD Independent Power Producer 1 (Pty) Ltd. The solar farm has an installed capacity of 20MW and features around 92,000 Tenesol TE 240PV solar panels on single-axis trackers. Under a 20-year power purchase agreement, the project reached financial close in 2012 and became operational in April 2014.
