Aurora-Rietvlei Solar Power (RF) (Pty) Ltd was established to develop, own, construct, finance and manage a 10MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant approximately seven kilometres from the town of Aurora in the Western Cape. The park consists of 35,000 x 300kW Renesola modules manufactured by Solaire Direct Technologies in Cape Town.
The project was awarded a 20-year power purchase agreement under the second procurement round of the REIPPP programme. The project began construction in 2013 and electricity delivery to the grid started in 2014.
Direct funding from the Aurora solar PV plant is used to fund various local socio-economic development initiatives including supporting early childhood development centres, soup kitchens and scholarships.
